Barnstable Births, Marriages, Deaths <1643-1714+; Town Records 1736-1885. Vol 1. 432 pages. Except for marriages of 1688-1722 and 1807-1824, most vital records in this book consist of births and deaths by family, dating from 1632-1736, with the earliest occurring in Plymouth (p 399). The various town and proprietor records extend from about 1640-1885, and include meeting minutes, land transfers, pew deeds, and lists of proprietors–possibly interspersed with a few vitals. Though the ink on some pages is badly faded, especially in the vital records, much data can be determined with help of the transcripts on fiches 7-11 and 39. Note blank pages 352-376.

Though some pages are best viewed at high magnification, most of these records are legible --in spite of old-style writing and some faded or bleeding ink. Page numbers often hide in worn corners, but can be estimated at the rate of 20 pages per row. Note two different sets of page numbers at the end of the book, with the index on fiche 14 apparently keyed to 358 pages, and the transcript below (fiches 18-22) keyed to 365 pages. Vital records consist of births, intentions, marriages, and deaths of about 1696-1847; miscellaneous records include ear marks and reports of stray animals.
