The land area in Bristol County now known as Berkley was originally part of Taunton. In 1712, most of that area was taken from Taunton to become part of the newly formed Dighton. In 1735, Berkley was established from portions of Dighton and Taunton. Both of those towns, as well as Lakeville (Plymouth County), Freetown and Somerset are current neighbors of Berkley. There are eight volumes included in this collection.

Berkley Town Records 1735-1768. Vol 1. 278 pages.
The town records include minutes of town meetings, lists of jurors and town payees, and animal records from about 1735-1768. Births, deaths, marriages and intentions from 1670-1824 are interspersed with the town records; most are found after page 160. Duplicates of those vital events dated before 1735 may have been recorded also in Dighton, Taunton or other towns.

Berkely Town Records 1770-1804. Vol 2. 371 pages.
Besides town records from 1770-1802, vital records as early as 1757 and as late as 1834 are found in this volume. Also, a copy of the act establishing Berkley in 1735 is included. It appears that the pages after #163 were mistakenly numbered, resulting in two different sets of pages identified as 124-163. Later, most of the pages after the second #124 were correctly renumbered, but the original number was also retained. On pages with two numbers, therefore, the higher number is usually correct. If there is only one number on any page after the first #163, verify its accuracy be checking adjoining pages. In most instances below, "correct" numbers have been used.
