Dracut existed as a tract
of land along the New Hampshire border before it became
a town in 1702. Parts of the town were later annexed to
Lowell, Massachusetts. Record-keeping began about
1710--with a proprietor's book and seven early books
with a mix of town and vital records. An index of the
vital records of 1710-1840, extracted from the seven
volumes, appears in a separate volume. Another three
volumes index all vital records, except those of
1841-1847, found in six registers that began in 1840.
The remaining books in the twenty-three volume
collection include transcripts of volumes 1 and 5, and
three books of military and/or pauper records.

for work on the meetinghouse at various times (e.g.,

proprietors of 1710 (pages 263, 288-289)--and other
interesting records. Births range from 1697-1750, deaths
from 1717-1750, marriages/intentions from 1715-1751.
Most ink is good; much of the writing is early style. No
