Grafton, set off four miles square, was first reserved for Indians at the time of the settling of Sutton. Until the Indian population declined, the town became the central residence of the Nipmuck people. When the town was incorporated in 1735, the Indian name, Hassanamisco, was changed to Grafton. The town is surrounded by Upton, Northbridge, Sutton, Millbury, Shrewsbury, and Westborough.

Thirty-five volumes of town records comprise this filmed collection. For some reason, many births recorded before 1850 in the town records occurred out of town. Is this because Grafton had an unusual migration pattern or because the town clerk was more meticulous than most?
