In 1734 settlers from
Plympton, Middleboro, and Pembroke, determined they
wanted their area named Halifax. Many of these early
settlers descended from early families of Plymouth. The
west side of the town is bounded by Bridgewater, East
Bridgewater, and Hanson.

There are nine volumes in
this group of records. The first three volumes of the
earliest books, though named, Town Records, contain both
town and vital records mixed together. Volumes 4 and 5
of the Town Records contain only records of meetings and
other business. Finally, there is an inclusive listing
of births, marriages, and deaths starting in 1842,
together with an index.
