Hanover, a town established in 1727,
is located in Plymouth County. It is surrounded by Norwell on the
north and east, Rockland on the north and west, and Hanson and
Pembroke on the south. |

At the end of the nineteenth century,
the town records were rearranged and consolidated. An indexed copy
(transcript) of the earliest (about 1727-1857) vital records was one
result of the project. A filmed copy of the transcript is found on
fiches 25-28. Eleven other volumes of Hanover records are included
in this collection. The early volumes combine town and vital
records. Later volumes are specific to town records, vital records,
marriage intentions, militia lists, and Civil War servicemen. |

The town records include flat rentals, oaths of office, ear marks

When the work of copying was planned
in 1896, there were 35 volumes of old records. They were rearranged
into 22 volumes, with the vital records being extracted and printed
here. The volumes are described on pages v and vi of this book. Some
births earlier than 1727 are recorded; also, a few deaths and
marriages are included with the birth records. The only intentions
recorded here are those where a marriage was not recorded. |
