Lowell, taken from Chelmsford, became a town in 1826 and a city in 1836. Dates as early as 1639 come from family genealogies. This collection includes fifty volumes of vital records and indexes of the following categories: births, 18 volumes; marriages, 16 volumes; deaths, 15 volumes; and one town record volume. Note certificate numbers for some births and marriages in parenthesis.

Most births and deaths appear by family, and extend from about 1787-1868, though most range from 1826 to 1845. Marriages generally fall between 1826 and 1839. Dates as early as 1639 and as late as 1879 occur in genealogies that relate to families such as Beard, Butterfield, Davidson, Fiske, Howland, Hubbard, Latham, Nowell, Parkhurst, Powers, Spaulding, and Taylor (see pages 423-439).
