Lunenberg was incorporated in 1728 from parts of Dorchester, Woburn, and Turkey Hills. Adjoining Worcester County towns presently are Lancaster, Leominster and Fitchburg; while Middlesex County neighbors include Ashby, Townsend and Shirley. It is reported that many of Lunenberg's early settlers came from Ireland.

Lunenburg Transcript of Births, Marriages, Deaths 1739-1800. Vol 1. 294 pages.

This transcript (copied in 1847-1848) is attributed to original volumes I and II. Arranged alphabetically, it includes births circa 1707-1796, marriages of 1727-1798, marriage intentions of 1741-1797, and deaths 1707-1790. Some "A" listings for deaths may be missing. Most marriages and intentions are arranged by the name of the groom. Unfortunately, some of the ink is badly faded. Check the Addenda for additional entries in each category.

Lunenburg Records 1720-1763. Vol I.

Subtitled as "Minutes and Reports," this appears to be the original Volume I that is transcribed above. The first pages are numbered as 1-183; remaining pages, after an initial 1-57, are numbered in small sets or not at all. Pages 1-159 are mostly town meeting minutes of 1728-1763. The remainder of the book is mostly vital records, with town records of 1790-1796 sometimes interspersed, especially among the second group of pages 31-57. The vital records include marriage intentions of 1741-1785; births and deaths of 1707-1791; and marriages of 1730-1768 and 1787-1795. For data lost in the book's tight binding, check the transcript.

Lunenburg Records 1763-1796. Vol II.

Subtitled as "Minutes and Reports," this seems to be the original Volume II referenced in the transcript above. Included in this record, besides minutes of town meetings, are births of 1763-1796, some marriages of 1768-1790, and marriage intentions of 1765-1770 and 1785-1797. Lunenburg Transcript of Marriages, Births, Deaths 1800-1849. Vol 2.

This copy of original volume III includes marriage intentions of 1797-1849; marriages 1764-1844; births 1776-1851; and deaths 1783-1849+, with a few as late as 1895. Transcribed, also, are some of the 1841-1843 deaths hidden in the town records of 1828-1847. Some ink is hard to read. Except for a few pages of marriages from 1764-1800, all other entries are alphabetized--with intentions and marriages arranged by groom. Why did six members of the Low family die (page 299) from July through October 1807: Benoni @ 75, Deacon William @ 56, Eunice @ 55, Francis @ 29, William @ 27, and Joseph @ 22?

Lunenburg Church Records 1805-1837. Vol 2.

Referenced on its title page as Volume 2, this book consists of about 160 pages, with few numbered. Most entries in the book extend from 1805-1834 and 1847-1850--with little data when there was no minister (1835-1846). The first half of the book is a chronological listing of general church records from about 1805-1836 and 1846-1860, including baptisms from 1805-1814+. (See page 3 for the total number of deaths, marriages and christenings in 1805.) The last half of the book includes baptisms 1815-1832, marriages and deaths 1815-1832/1834 and 1847-1850; as well as church admissions and dismissions and a chronology of ministers from 1728-1834 and 1847-1859.
