Marblehead, located next to the Atlantic Ocean in Essex County, and bordered on the east by Salem and Swampscott, was designated a plantation in 1635. In 1649, Marblehead separated from Salem and became a town. The Marblehead records contain many lists of residents; e.g., potential jurors, committee members, town officers, and militia.

This book transcribes from volumes 1 and 2 (below) meeting minutes of various groups; e.g. town voters, commoners, proprietors, and selectman. It also copies, from the same volumes, town accounts, land grants, and various lists of residents. As neither Vol 1 nor Vol 2 contain marriages, however, the source of those in this book is uncertain.

Hutchinson, a Loyalist, and his associates (p 195/202ff); 1777 efforts to cleanse the town of small pox (p 270/277); and a 1780 table (p 364/372) identifying town residents by category; e.g., widows, missing, and those in captivity.
