See the table of contents for the
general types of data recorded in this book. Most of the town
records appear to be original records. Of special interest are
vital record indexes, land grants, and "marks."
Generally "marks" recorded in a town book refer to ear
marks that identify four-legged animals. Here, even marks on
whales are registered! The land grants help determine who
settled in the town, and when. Entries for the indexes of birth,
marriage and intentions were mostly transcribed from Book 2,
though some may also have been copied from Book 1 and Book 3.
