Oxford Records/Births, Marriages, Deaths [1714-1845]. Vol A. 631 pages.

This volume consolidates most of the vital data in the earliest town records; i.e., births of 1714-1841, marriage intentions of 1742-1839 (and two of 1716), marriages of 1718-1839, and deaths of 1717-1845; as well as the 1690 birth of Ebenezer Learned (page 52) and the 1696 birth of Timothy Harris (page 148). Most births are arranged by family. Intentions, marriages, and deaths usually are arranged chronologically, but watch for occasional out-of-order dates. Besides on-going town business, these meeting minutes identify the enrolled militia 1840-1858 and residents selected for jury duty. "Warnings out," neatly arranged in tables, are extracted from other records. Legibility of the writing depends on the firmness of the clerk's hand; a good example is Sylvanus Harris, who served from 1837-1841 (pages 91-155).
