| The Pittsfield vital
records comprise 24 volumes of data and 15 volumes of
indexes. Filmed data includes 19 original volumes from
1761-1899 and six typed books of births and marriages
beginning in 1844. The typescripts were copied by the
Works Project Administration (WPA) in 1939-1940. The
filmed indexes include eight which reference the
original data volumes and seven which index the WPA
books and Book 1 of the town records. The WPA indexes
are more readable, and appear to be more thorough, than
the original indexes. Data and indexes published by the
WPA are so indicated below. |
