Sheffield, Massachusetts,
situated in Berkshire County near New York and next to
Connecticut, became a town on 22 January 1733. An
interesting document included in the town's records is a
1773 Declaration of Independence. Town tradition claims
its use as a model in 1776. The 1773 document is
recorded in Volume 1 of the Town Records 1728-1789 and
on fiche 9 of this collection.
