With no federal census available for
1890, lists of voters help fill the gap. Starting in
1884, these lists usually give age, occupation, residence, and
registration date of recent relatives. Sometimes you will find the
applicant’s place of birth, naturalization data and/or remarks
about migration or death--plus an occasional signature.
